A Guide To Rebuilding Your Credit

By Abhishek Thakur

Regardless of if you need a major overhaul, or just a small tune up, there are lots of other people in your same shoes. Following the advice from this article will help to guide you on your way to better credit.

First, request copies of your credit scores. There are many sites where you can pay for this and at least one that is completely free for one report a year. When you have your report, start by looking for any mistakes.

Make sure you talk with your creditor about options. When you know which creditors want their money and want it now, you can pay those creditors off first. Determine whether or not you will have to pay interest, late fees, or other financial penalties. By focusing on paying off your high-interest accounts, you can save a great deal of money.

Always document problems that you see on your credit report so you have a log to follow up on. Having this information gathered in one place will increase your ability to detect errors. This will go a long way toward protecting your credit rating in the future.

Familiarize yourself with regards to your rights when it comes to dealing with collection agencies. For instance, you won't be imprisoned if you can't pay a bill, and threats made by collection agencies are not legal. While each state has its own laws, most of them ban threats and verbal abuse. Take action to ensure that your rights are respected.

Try to keep credit card balances below 30 percent of the credit available. Maintaining this rate will help you make your repayments more easily. Go over, and you are going to end up with less pocket money.

Debt which has been handed over to debt collectors still needs to be addressed. Work with the collectors to come up with a suitable payment plan. These debtors will want to get their money back and will most likely work out a deal with you. Avoidance never helps in these situations. Have a conversation with the debt collectors about how you want to make an effort to pay off your debt. If you make the time to communicate with them, you could potentially have your debt reduced. Your debtors will be more willing to work with you if you are honest with them and make an effort to pay your bills.

The tips in this article are designed to help you improve your credit. Start leveraging these suggestions to begin making inroads in credit repair immediately.

Are 0% Credit Card Offers Good For You?

By Wayne Ball

If you are looking to apply for a credit card, you have certainly seen the large amount of 0% credit card offers. These cards allow you to pay back the principal balance on your credit card interest free for a certain specified period of time. While these kinds of cards can be useful to some people, they can also have hidden traps. Read below to find out if an interest free credit card is right for you.

Make sure to set a budget before applying for a credit card or loan. Credit is not free money. By being responsible and not spending more than you make most months, credit cards and loans can be good tools. However, not being responsible can lead to financial ruin.

Finding out more about the interest free time period is critical. Once you have figured this out, you can compare to your budget and see how it would help to save. You should always consider the risks and cost of transferring other debts to a new card. Making sure you are aware of all the fine print is important to avoid possible future financial problems.

Also, be sure to check out the interest rate that will be charged once your interest free period is over. Often, credit card companies will offer an interest free period for awhile, only to start charging ridiculously high interest rates after the grace period.

Some credit card companies have low tolerance for late payments and will charge interest as soon as you are late on a payment. Take this into consideration when shopping for a zero interest card. Make sure to check out the credit card's late payment policy and consider whether or not you will be able to consistently make payments on time.

Another concern are monthly fees and transfer costs. Consolidating and transferring other debts to a zero interest card may not be worth it if there are expensive monthly fees or transfer fees.

Keep in mind that with any credit card comes great responsibility. Try to pay off your balance every month if possible. If you are trying to get out of debt, budget to spend less than you make every month and pay down your balance as quickly as you can.

Using 0% credit card offers can be financially helpful. However, you should know the potential dangers with credit cards and be sure not to take on more debt than you will ever be able to pay off.

Eight Suggestions for Safely Processing Credit Cards as a Merchant

By Rick Sturms

For your business's success a Los Angeles merchant credit card processing account is critically important. In addition to being able to accept cash and checks for payment, it enables you accept debit and credit card payments. However, while there's many great benefits in accepting credit cards, there are also potential pitfalls. A few things that you need to consider in order to avoid fraud and charge backs follow.

Be careful when dealing with international buyers and sellers. I've had problems with Eastern European, some Asian and other developing nations. The major culprits in fraudulent purchases live in those areas. Carefully investigate any large order that has many expensive items.

Always request the CVV number up front. The security code is located on the signature line on the back of the card, immediately following the 16 digit card number. Studies show that requiring this number reduces charge backs by about 25 percent. There are credit card services that will not authorize a transaction unless they have this.

Be especially suspicious if an order comes in for a very pricey item and requests that there be over night shipping. This is very true if is easy for the items to be sold for money on the street. This applies to very large orders as well.

When it come to Los Angeles merchant credit card processing, it is strongly recommended to exercise extreme caution when dealing with suspicious orders. When you receive an order that seems unusual or seems to have missing or incorrect information, you must recheck the customer's information. Feel comfortable knowing the sale is real.

Ask for and get copies of identification and details of the credit being used if you receive a suspicious order. Get the faxed copies of credit cards and licences from the purchasers. This will offer you protection from fraudulent purchases. A legitimate customer may object and say it's too much hassle, but consider the fact that in that case you may only lose the sale. You will lose the product and the shipping price if there is a fraudulent buyer.

You can dial 411 to activate the reverse look-up feature, allowing you to verify addresses and phone numbers. Make sure that whoever delivers it will get a signed slip when they bring your item to those who've bought it. Keep copies of all signatures for your records. The person buying from you may say it's okay to leave the package that's delivered on their porch. Just be aware that you'll have to replace it if he can't find it when he gets home.

Always tell the truth and always say the same thing when it comes to your safety and also your security items. Be sure your employees know and understand those measures too. Putting the points above in use will reduce, if not eliminate fraudulent purchases. Most scammers won't try their wiles on web sites where there seems to be a lot of security. They will quickly advance to easier prey on the web.

Citigroup Blasting Credit Card Offers By Mail

By Cornelius Nunev

With business sagging, Citigroup Inc. is making a major force for credit card customers, reports the Wall Street Jour-nal. Arriving at a North American home in your area in the third quarter will be an estimat-ed 346 million charge card deals, accord-ing to statistics compiled by analysis firm Synovate. That's greater than one for every man, female and kid in the United States, at a cost exceeding $240 million.

Enormous leap from somewhere on top

After the 3rd quarter figures are tabulated, Citigroup will probably take the lead from Chase as it is already one of probably the most active mailers for credit card promotions. Sending out postal mail is money well spent, ac-cording to experts. This is since the business lost millions during the financial crisis with changes in credit cards.

As the Nilson Report confirms that Citigroup currently ranks fourth in dollars spent on charge cards by U.S. consumers - behind American Express, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and Bank of America Corp. - the ground to make up is considera-ble.

Worse is gone

Citigroup is confident that the worst has already hit be-cause of the reduction in non-collectable credit card debt in the U.S. The numbers bear this out, as the business made $584 million in the second quarter of 2011, versus a $154 million loss a year before.

Last quarter, American Express, Bank of America and Discover all dropped the number of mailings they did, which is why Citigroup executive Jud Linville believes that there's a great opportunity.

"This is a business where you look for vacuums," Linville said. "Are there players moving out of certain categories?"

Cash lost due to law

In Oct, the fees banks charge for debit card swipes will be capped by merchants because of the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Act. With all of the caps, the debit cards become less profitable. That means that lots of issuers have dropped all rewards programs associated with the cards.

Citigroup plans to get consumers into its charge card programs by bridging this gap. To grease the wheels, Citi has offered charge cards with simplified fee structures this summer, some with no annual fee or late charges, others with zero percent balance trans-fers. Consumers that take advantage of the promotions will end up making Citi some money. It will be worth it in the end.
